Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we get asked. If you've got a question that isn't answered below, contact us and we'll do our best to answer your question.

Do you use a portable duct cleaning system?

Yes, our primary cleaning unit uses a powerful combination of compressed air and vacuum suction. Brushes can be utilized but is not usually necessary.

Caliber can clean your home with the use of a portable system that scrubs out the inside of the ducts while vacuuming at point of contact of the disturbed dust and debris. Various sizes of brushes and hoses are utilized to ensure all cleaning dynamics are handled properly.

Can you scrub out all of the ductwork throughout a house?

Potentially, yes. There have been some occasions where vent dampers, small openings, or too many bends may restrict the brush from scrubbing every square inch of the ductwork. However, it is Caliber’s job to perform the best possible cleaning standards each and every time.

Our newer cleaning system can easily tackle tough corners, large ductwork, and complicated floor plans without question.

Why disinfect?

Sanitizing the air stream will significantly reduce dust mites, allergens, mold spores and many other contaminants that circulate throughout the ductwork. We use a disinfectant that is used monthly within hospitals and is recommended every six months in a residential home. Best of all it is a completely environmentally friendly product.

What type of commercial cleanings have you done?

Examples of commercial cleanings are:

Are you insured?

Yes, Caliber operates with full WCB coverage and 2 Million Liability Insurance. All other items are fully insured and licensed as well.

Do you use a camera to inspect the cleaning process?

Absolutely. Caliber uses a camera that has the ability to take before, during, and after pictures and videos of the cleaning process. This will ensure that everything has been cleaned properly and pictures may be emailed to the customer upon request.

How often do you recommend a person gets their ducts cleaned?

You should have your home cleaned at least every 2 years. However, Caliber has Annual Maintenance Contracts that are available to the customer. Included with the contract are an annual full cleaning and disinfecting as well as a disinfecting 6 months later to maintain your Indoor Air Quality. You will also receive discounts on all other products and services and you get $50 credits toward your next annual cleaning for each qualified referral instead of $25 referral fees. It is a great way to maintain your Indoor Air Quality in a cost-effective way. Call and ask for more details.

Why clean my dryer vent? Can it be a fire hazard?

Clothes dryers account for almost 16,000 fires annually in North America, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Lint build-up in the dryer vent creates a potential fire hazard and reduces the overall efficiency of the dryer. You may be able to reduce your monthly utility bill with a cleaner dryer vent. Dryer vents should be cleaned once a year to ensure maximum efficiency.

Do you clean the furnace, fan, and A-coil during the cleaning process?

Every cleaning includes a full cleaning of everything. All heat registers, cold air intakes, the main hot and cold plenums, and everything within the furnace are scrubbed clean if applicable. Sometimes it may be difficult to access under or above the A-coil and within the heat coil. However, all steps are taken to ensure the best cleaning possible given the circumstances. We thoroughly clean the furnace fan as long as we can properly remove it as they tend to be heavily soiled with dust.

How do you clean the main plenum trunks?

Access panels are opened or created to allow entrance into the larger ducts. It is here that we will switch to a larger brush in order to scrub out every square inch of remaining space or simply use special attachments for our air lines to pull the debris toward the vacuum.

How do you price out the cleaning process?

Pricing packages are based on the size and type of home. All cleanings will include the full cleaning of all ductwork as well as the furnace area. A new pleated filter will be provided if applicable and a Surgical Air disinfecting may be introduced into the ductwork after the cleaning.

What is UV lighting? How important is it?

"Ultra-violet air disinfection is a potentially important technique for environmental control of airborne infection." -Dr. Richard L. Riley, John Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Dept. of Environmental Medicine.
UV Lighting is known to reduce household odors, germs and viruses from inside your air stream. It also improves central air system performance and efficiency and helps to prevent contaminant build-up in the drain pan. This version will NOT produce ozone.
